Year 4 New Forest Visit

To start our Autumn Term off with a bang we decided to visit the New Forest. Our trip started with a visit to Lyndhurst Verderers Court to learn about the rules of the forest and who decides what happens if the rules are broken. Then we had a whistle stop tour of Lyndhurst Museum- finding out all the ways in which it is used. The area in which we live was important in WW2 and has housed many endangered animals.

When we finished a short coach journey, we arrived at Bolderwood and had lunch. After lunch, the children were given cameras and voice recorders to spot the human impact at Bolderwood. Our afternoon ended with a walk and us spotting 4 Fallow Deer in a nearby field.

We were all tired after a long and adventurous day that has informed our learning throughout this topic.

Year 3 Maths

This week, in Maths, Year 3 have been learning all about shapes. We have enjoyed making shapes with the pegboards and recognising the difference between regular and irregular polygons. We’ve been looking at 2D and 3D shapes, and sorting 3D shapes using Venn Diagrams. Finally, the children had great fun making 3D shapes with playdough.

Year 3 Tennis

This week Year 3 have been playing tennis.

At the beginning of the lesson we recapped what we did in last week’s lesson. We balanced a ball on a racket and counted how long we could balance it for. Then we practised our forehand and played little games of tennis with a partner.

Year 5 and 6 Orienteering

On Thursday 3rd October, 12 Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in an orienteering competition at the Tile Barn in Brockenhurst. The afternoon consisted of finding clues, teamwork and being able to read their maps accurately. As you can see from these pictures, these were skills that they all used well. The children were split into groups of 4 and had to complete two tasks: Anagram and finding the clues and hole punching them.

The hard work, effort and determination of these pupils paid off as in the Anagram challenge 2 groups came joint 1st and the other group came 3rd. Then in the hole punch challenge 1 group came 3rd overall. This was a fantastic effort and all the children who were involved should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

It goes to show that hard work, determination and effort really do help to strive for our best.

Year 3 and 4 Football

What an amazing start to our sporting calendar! These 10 Year 3 and 4 boys took part in a Football competition at Ringwood School on Thursday 26th September. They competed against 5 other teams from the local area and came out on top winning first place! Arriving back at school they were all greeted by proud teachers who applauded their efforts.

Proudly, the boys have been wearing their medals and commenting on how much fun they had. Well done boys your hard work and effort paid off!

Inclusive ‘Can Do’ Festival

This year we have started with an exciting bang by being involved with lots of sporting events. On Wednesday 25th September,   these children were selected to represent Fordingbridge Junior School in an Inclusive Can Do Festival.

This took place at Testwood Sports College in Totton and the children represented us really well by being polite and great sportsman.

As you can see from the smiles on their faces the enjoyed their day and gave 100% effort throwing themselves into all the activities.

Natalie, 4AG- “ I had so much fun and I really enjoyed the activities. I also saw a friend who had a different type of cerebral palsy and it was nice that we could all participate together”

Cyber Ambassadors

Welcome to our new Cyber Ambassadors!

We have recently recruited a cyber ambassador from each class who will be our experts in e-safety.

Yesterday we welcomed Hampshire Constabulary into FJS and had a morning of training. We are looking forward to sharing why toothpaste and tieing ourselves in knots is linked to e-safety with the whole school very soon – watch this space!

A visit from Aaron Phipps

Wow! What an inspirational and motivating visit we were treated to. Aaron plays wheelchair rugby for team GB and represented GB in London 2012, as well as competing in the London marathons and more recently being the first disabled British person who has climbed Kilimanjaro without assistance. He is now training for Tokyo 2020.

As well as telling us all about his adventures the key messages of never giving up on a goal and having a growth mindset were inspirational.

Aaron gave us his 4 steps to succes:
– Set a goal
– Get organised
– Ask for help
– Work hard

We know many of the children came home to share Aarons story and we know his messages will come through in the childrens own lives.
