Year 5 English

Who said writing wasn’t fun?

Here we are asking a partner to draw the butterfly we have described.

Some people managed to make butterfly twins while others…let’s just say there were some differences to spot!

Singing at Godolphin School

As a school, we were invited to attend a singing event at Godolphin School in Salisbury, which included singing workshops and a performance to parents at the end of the day. A group of 13 children from all years went along for the day who were joined by another primary school in the area, and all had a fantastic time.

After juice and biscuits on arrival (and break!), they learned some interesting breathing exercises to help them breathe properly for singing, which also involved laying on the floor. They then practised the five songs they’ve been learning over the weeks which included ‘Up on the roof’, ‘You’ve got a friend in me’, ‘When I grow up’ and an African song.

In the afternoon, the two choirs were joined by the Godolphin choir from Years 7 and 8 and the performance sounded beautiful. FJS children did the school proud because they performed wonderfully and behaved impeccably. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the long lunchbreak exploring the expansive grounds too!

School Council News

The school Council were lucky to be invited to The Regal Cinema in Fordingbridge. We had a lovely walk into Fordingbridge and enjoyed the experience of watching the film.

We watched the film Plastic Ocean, which was quite a hard hitting film about the effect of plastic pollution on sea life. As a result of watching the film we have decided to discuss what we can do to help the environment in school.

Year 5 River Trip

What a perfect day for splashing about in a river!
We found rapids by the water meadows and water alive with invertebrates at Parsonage Park.
Ask us about our mayfly larvae.  We had a visitor in from the chalk stream association.
Hopefully we will have some hatchlings to release back into the environment one day after school – watch this post for details.
Thank you to Mrs Sayers-Carter, Mrs Godden, Miss Keitley and all school staff who have helped make this an exciting and useful local trip.

Year 6 Greek food tasting

When you need to design and make your own Greek Salad what better way to research then to visit the ‘Greek Market’ and do some food tasting! That’s what Year 6 did this week and were surprised to find some new foods they like including olives and feta cheese. We are looking forward to our master chef experience of making our Greek salads over the next few weeks!

Choir at Fordingbridge Culture Week

Last Friday after a wet and rainy morning, the choir walked to St Mary’s Church to perform to a packed audience.

FJS choir started the performance by singing four of their favourite songs including Make Your Own Kind of Music and How far I go, followed by the FIS choir.  The choirs then came together as a joint choir to sing five songs including A Million Dreams, Believe and Mamma Mia as their finale.

Both choirs sang beautifully and with such confidence.  It was a fantastic performance and a real pleasure to see them perform.  Well done.
