A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our harvest collection – our best yet! The food was donated to the Fordingbridge Food Bank; we collected enough food to feed 16 families for 3 days. What a great community achievement!

Year 6 – The silk road
What would you like to trade along the Silk Road? Linking to our learning unit, ‘The Golden Age of Islam’ Year 6 went for a journey along the Silk Road. We each represented a country and a item and went trading! We were surprised to learn of the high value of nutmeg and perfume and wished we had less ivory and coral! What a fun learning experience and great bartering skills!
Year 5 Marwell Zoo visit
When I was planning this trip, people advised me this was an ill-fated year group, who often received a drenching on their outings.
NOT ANY MORE!
How lucky were we: every time it rained we were under cover. The weather didn’t limit our visit to Marwell Zoo at all.
Even better, many animals (especially the big cats) were active and in close view. The giraffes were positively skittish, cantering around and meeting up in circles like players before a match.
A big thank you to the children for their exemplary behaviour and a warm thank you to the adult volunteers without whom we wouldn’t have been able to take the children out of school.
We look forward to the next adventure!
Year 3 this week!
Year 3 have explored the world this week in our hook for our topic ‘Around Europe in Six weeks’. We wanted to know which countries they knew by giving them traditional clues as well as edible ones! They had a go at tasting German sausage, African biltong, baguettes and poppadum, so they were very brave! We were very pleased at how knowledgeable they were with their country names – especially knowing the different flags.
They also had a taster session on rugby this week with the Fordingbridge Rugby club, which they really enjoyed.

Whole School Rugby
On Friday 13th September, all year groups had the chance to take part in rugby coaching sessions with Fordingbridge Rugby Football club. They all had a 35 minute session which involved throwing, catching, understandings rules and most importantly having fun. Teachers and children commented on how much they enjoyed themselves and learnt. Lots of children said to me “I’m going to join Rugby now because that was fun”. I want to say a massive thank you to Mrs Trow for organising the event with Mrs Knapman. I’d also like to say thank you to Fordingbridge Rugby and Football club for their hard work and dedication to ensure all children learnt something and had fun. Finally all children behaved well and joined in showing what amazing pupils we have at Fordingbridge Junior School. Year 5 Writing Share
Once we found out what the rainforest biome was like, we decided to invent a new creature to live there.
Beware, some of our inventions are dangerous.
Here we are sharing our first descriptions with a partner.
Year 5 Music
Thank you to Mrs Davies who came in to teach us about the words that describe music.
We learned about pitch, dynamics, rhythm and tempo.
We also used some fantastic new instruments.
Year 5 French
Here we are using the SALUT programme to revise the animals we learned in Year 4.
In Year 5 we will be adding jungle animals to our pets and forest animals.

Who said writing wasn’t fun?
Here we are asking a partner to draw the butterfly we have described.
Some people managed to make butterfly twins while others…let’s just say there were some differences to spot!
Singing at Godolphin School
As a school, we were invited to attend a singing event at Godolphin School in Salisbury, which included singing workshops and a performance to parents at the end of the day. A group of 13 children from all years went along for the day who were joined by another primary school in the area, and all had a fantastic time.
After juice and biscuits on arrival (and break!), they learned some interesting breathing exercises to help them breathe properly for singing, which also involved laying on the floor. They then practised the five songs they’ve been learning over the weeks which included ‘Up on the roof’, ‘You’ve got a friend in me’, ‘When I grow up’ and an African song.
In the afternoon, the two choirs were joined by the Godolphin choir from Years 7 and 8 and the performance sounded beautiful. FJS children did the school proud because they performed wonderfully and behaved impeccably. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the long lunchbreak exploring the expansive grounds too!
