On Tuesday 26^th February Year three and four were lucky to have a visitor from the New Forest. She spoke about the effect plastic has on our environment and we were able to suggest things we can do to reduce our plastic use.

Pupils of year 3 were feeling very proud this week when showing their amazing shields.  They were able to give us lots of interesting facts about Roman times including how they used the shields and how they were made:  the range of food they ate: Roman baths: and were able to list some of the well-known Emperors.  Well done Year 3!

Year 3 had an RE Day this week which was all about marriage ceremonies.  We learnt about the traditions and the importance of marriage ceremonies, and Ross Sinkinson from Alderholt Chapel spoke to them in more detail.

In the afternoon, we looked at Jewish marriage ceremonies and how they compared to Christian ones and shared our thoughts and feelings of marriage.

We had a fun Maths lesson this week.  The children were looking at estimating and measuring items around the classroom.  They were estimating in millimetres, centimetres and metres, and were measuring all sorts of things such as pencils, pens, tables, whiteboards and the height of the door frame!  They were also measuring height of each other.  Lots of fun learning!

Y3 – Roman Play in a Day

Wr had an amazing day this week when Ben from the Tree House Theatre came to teach the children all about how Romans invaded Britain in the form of a play.
Children were given a part (or two) in the play to act out and say lines.  We had elephants, wolves, Emperors, a Roman army, a Scottish Army and slaves to name but a few.  Children learnt a plethora of history, which we will explore in more detail.
Never in one performance did we see so many children perform spectacular deaths!  The grizzly bear was particularly good!! Children were also amused about what a sponge on a stick was used for!
It was a fantastic hook to our topic this term and no doubt children will go home with even more interesting facts to tell at home!!

Team building in PE – When it was wet outside Mr Williams helped us work on our team building skills in the hall. We had lots of fun but also learnt a lot about listening to each other and working as a team!

We had some amazing project homework in and we really enjoyed looking at everyone’s hard work! Some very merit worthy projects I’m sure you will agree.

We have been using games to help build sentences so we are able to add more detail to our writing.

KungFu Punctuation – we used KungFu punctuation to help us remember when to use inverted commas to punctuate speech.

Investigation Shadows – as part of our topic work this term we have been looking at shadows and enjoyed going onto the playground and making all kinds of shapes with our shadows.
